Come Unto Me
A Smiling Image of Jesus Welcomes You!

The original 40x20 inches art was painted in oil and sold in 2001. Paper prints may be purchased from the artist, with or without mats.

Inspiration:
The hymn Hosea written by Weston Priory, often sung in my church, inspired me. Some lyrics are: Come back to me with all your heart. Don't let fear keep us apart. Long have I waited for your coming home to me and living deeply our new life.
Here Jesus is just beginning his ministry. The drape color previews his loving sacrifice of Himself for us. I hoped, while painting, to show the Jewish Hebrew origins of Jesus, with olive skin and darker hair. I respect the many other ways that Jesus has been painted through the ages.
I hope this image, offered from my heart with humility, expresses His endless compassion and love. Since the art was conceived to use for a counseling center, I had hoped to show Jesus welcoming people to draw closer to Him, to receive comfort and hope in the face of great difficulties. I especially wanted children coming into the center to feel welcomed and safe.
His hands are held at the meeting place of sky (heaven) and earth. His hands are strong, a carpenter's hands. The cloud has a natural halo effect.
In the Southern Nebraska Register (February 9, 2007 on pages one and two), journalist S. L. Hansen wrote about the image as follows: Strong hands reach out eagerly from the canvas. His face is full and manly, with a thick beard and a joyous sparkle in his eyes. His lips seem about to part, to say your name.

Ministry Image beginning June 2010

In June 2010, Thom and Debbie Slaughter, Second Wind Ministry, were seeking an image for the back of their thirty-foot motor coach, something to catch the attention of people on the road and invite them think of Jesus and His love. Thom pictured Jesus with out-stretched hands and the scripture Matthew 11:28. He asked permission to use my image in his ministry. The image is size 3x2 feet (90x60 cm) on the coach, beautifully reproduced by Eric of www.thereddogdesigns.com in Delaware.

I am grateful if the image invites people into the arms of Jesus. ~ Nancy Lee

On May 16, 2011, Debbie wrote to me after purchasing a print:
LOVE THIS PICTURE! This is by far the best portrait I've seen. I wanted something in the home to honor Him by, but I didn't want to see a Jesus on the Cross or a stern Jesus. This is the Jesus I know, warm smile and welcoming gesture. What lamb could stray from the love that radiates from this?

Other comments that the art received:
Kathleen wrote to me: This painting immediately immerses me in the love of Jesus. It makes me want to walk up to Him and embrace Him.

A Catholic priest in Nebraska said: It is awesome! It is welcoming, warm, inviting, with unconditional love in the eyes and hand gesture.

John Michael wrote: Jesus has a soft smile, like he just took a breathe and was glad to see me. Jesus is saying “John Michael.” He recognized me in a personal way. He was doing something a second ago, then he saw me. He is holy, but reassuring, like I can join him in His grace.

Pastor Tom of a Presbyterian Church said: I love His smile. We see far too many serious images of Jesus.
