~ An Evening Visit to a Country Garden ~ On One of the Last Days of Summer 2010
Carol's Dolls: Misses Ellowyne Wilde, Prudence, & Riley Kish

On that August afternoon, Prudence was first to spy a moth, large as a hummingbird and similar in shape. It darted from flower to flower while we listened to the brook and counted butterflies. The warm earth was releasing the sun it had captured during the day.
|

Riley and Ellowyne rested on the blanket and watched the clouds pass in the open sky between the trees. Riley Kish counted the clouds, getting ready for school math.
Evening brought quiet to the high-pitched whirr of insect songs, cicadas and crickets). A Great Horned Owl began to call from a far off tree. Hooooo, hoo hoo.

What we feared to say aloud was this: How much we will miss summer days!
The peaceful stream gurgled along to the low place where fish splash. Soon in September its water will become too cold for wading. Soon the sound of the wind will differ, as it passes through leaves that are more crisp and dry, instead of the lush soft leaves of late summer. Then the clackering sound will warn of first frost.
|
|
Look here comes our friend Carol, with a bit of news to comfort our wistful hearts. Since September brings touches of autumn chill, we will go shopping soon ~ for sweaters and mittens. Shopping? We smile. Carol reminds us of autumn blessings and fun, like pumpkins and Halloween and the Harvest Moon. The garden will soon be turning other colors as scarlet and burnished-coral leaves drop into the stream. Where will the fish go? we ask Carol.

These two evening photos were taken by Alejandra, who was a guest visiting Nancy Lee from Paraguay, which is in the middle of South American. The garden is about five miles from Auburn, Nebraska USA.

Three Repainted Dolls, Commissions, August 2010
The artisan painting creates a lovely doll to the specifications of Helen Kish and Robert Tonner. In my painting, I aim only for less doll-like and more life-like, to see how much illusion of life I can achieve. Some painting work I do is of such delicacy, in transparent layers, with such time involved, that it would probably be cost-prohibitive to do it within a doll factory setting.
COLOR & PAINTING: Some computer screens may modify the color of the art. Some may make the image lighter or darker than it is. The doll has finer detail and more subtle coloring than computer-jpeg-photos can show.
BOX, Certificate, Doll Company:
I hope you won't store your dolls in the original cardboard boxes. Cardboard is an inexpensive paper product that is acidic. If you do store your dolls in original boxes, wrap each doll first in a clean white cotton pillowcase to protect it.
PAINTING
On these dolls I used artist acrylic paint, plus resin-oil glow (gloss) on eyes and satin gloss on lips.

Nancy Lee Moran's POLICY TO SHOW RESPECT for HELEN KISH & other doll creators is as follows:
The dolls I use were factory painted. I would never repaint a doll that the artist (Helen Kish) had painted herself, such as some of those in the Kish Signature Line. I would not paint one in a limited edition of fewer than 300 (preferably 500 or more). I consult the beautiful book I own: Helen Kish: The Artist and Her Dolls by Louise Fecher (hardcover published in 2006). I am NOT affiliated with any doll company, creator or manufacturer.
