Spring Wreath (Wreathe) watercolor of spring flowers by Nancy Lee Moran, created from the artist's own sketches in colors of peach, red, green, lavender and yellow, painted without the aid of photography

Farm children often begin simple chores at age four, like feeding the chickens and gathering eggs. This child, though only two, has gathered eggs.
I like chickens, which bring back memories of my grandmother Gertrude's Iowa farm, where I had the blessing of spending some childhood summers. Grandma's kindly face and the bustle of farm animals greeted me each morning. For the kittens, I poured milk into dishes under the lilac bushes. Then I brushed my pony's coat. How I treasure those memories!
With my special thanks to Holly and her family's chickens.
